The Northern Virginia Writing Project is pleased to announce the Spring 2008 Young Writers’ Workshops. We welcome interested students and motivated writers in grades 4-12.

This spring’s workshops will be held on February 23, April 5, and April 19. Click below for detailed information and registration options.

For Students

The Young Writers’ Workshops are one-day workshops where students get to choose the sessions they would like to attend. The staff welcomes interested students and motivated writers in grades 4-12. Classes are run by NVWP Teacher/Consultants, some of the best teachers in Northern Virginia. Classes are small, with an average ratio of twelve students to one Teacher/Consultant. The cost of the workshop is $60.00.

This spring’s topics are:

  • Art & Nature Writing
  • Writing from Personal Experience
  • Visualization
  • Theater Sports
  • Mystery Stories
  • Science Fiction Stories
  • Short Stories
  • Fantasy Stories
  • Scriptwriting
  • Poetry
  • Dialogue & Characterization
  • College Application Essay Writing (open to grades 10-12 ONLY)

For Parents

Parents are invited to attend a discussion on supporting your students as writers. This discussion is free of charge and will take place from 11:50 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on all three dates. There is no need to notify us in advance if you wish to attend this discussion.

Paid Parents’ Workshop

In addition, we are offering parents the opportunity to participate in a writing workshop. On February 23, the topic will be Writing from Personal Experience. On April 5, the topic will be Poetry, and on April 19, the topic will be Fiction. The Parents’ Workshop takes place from 10:20 a.m. to 11:40 a.m., and costs $20.00.

Please Note:

The deadline for registering for the February 23 workshop is February 11. The deadline for registering for the April workshops is March 17. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. The workshops invariably fill up well in advance of the registration deadline, so get yours in early.

Because space is limited and demand is high, we ask that you register for only one date. Registrations for more than one date will not be accepted; we will ask you to choose just one.

If you are registering more than one student, you must complete a separate registration for each one.

To Register

You may register online or through the mail.

Click here to download a printable registration form. Please be sure to include your check, as a form alone does not reserve a space in the workshop.

Click here to register online. Please note that online registrations are not refundable. If your student is unable to attend, we will make every effort to schedule him or her into a later workshop. Online registration for the February 23 and April 5 Young Writers’ Workshops is now closed.
