The Northern Virginia Writing Project is pleased to announce the Fall 2009 Young Writers’ Workshops. We welcome interested students and motivated writers in grades 5-12.

This fall’s workshops will be held on November 7 and November 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Click below for detailed information and registration options.

For Students

The Young Writers’ Workshops are one-day workshops where students get to choose the sessions they would like to attend. The staff welcomes interested students and motivated writers in grades 5-12. Classes are run by NVWP Teacher/Consultants, some of the best teachers in Northern Virginia. Classes are small, with an average ratio of twelve students to one Teacher/Consultant. The cost of the workshop is $60.00.

• Mystery Stories
• Science Fiction Stories
• Short Stories
• Fantasy Stories
• Scriptwriting
• Poetry
• Dialogue & Characterization
• College Application Essay Writing (open to grades 10-12 ONLY)

For Parents

Parents are invited to attend a discussion on writing as a family. This discussion is free of charge and will take place from 11:50 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on both dates. There is no need to notify us in advance if you wish to attend this discussion.

Paid Parents’ Workshop

In addition, we are offering parents the opportunity to participate in a writing workshop. On November 7, the topic will be Poetry. On November 14, the topic will be Words as Gifts. The Paid Parents’ Workshop will take place from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on both dates, and costs $20.00.

Please Note:

The registration deadline is October 23.  Registration is on a first come, first served basis. The workshops invariably fill up well in advance of the registration deadline, so get yours in early.

Because space is limited and demand is high, we ask that you register for only one date. Registrations for more than one date will not be accepted; we will ask you to choose just one.

If you are registering more than one student, you must complete a separate registration for each one.
