Registration is now open for the 2010 Bernadette Mulholland Glaze Language & Learning Conference. Read on for full conference details and links to online registration and a printable registration form.

This year’s conference features keynote speaker Jim Burke.  Jim Burke has taught at Burlingame High School in California since 1992.  He has taught special education in private school settings and during his term of service in the Peace Corps.  He serves as a senior consultant to the Holt McDougal Literature Program and on College Board’s Advanced Placement Course and Exam Review Commission.  In 2009, he was elected to the National Council of Teachers of English’s (NCTE) Secondary Section, which allows him to use his experience as a high school teacher to further the work of other instructors in secondary school classrooms.

His keynote address, “What’s the Big Idea?  Using Questions to Engage Readers and Writers,” will focus on using questions to create meaningful instruction for both readers and writers in all classes, K-12.  The workshop will help teachers look at questions they are or could be using in their classrooms, and how these questions can be used to organize meaningful units of instruction while also improving writing.

In addition to Jim Burke’s afternoon sessions, participants will be able to attend two presentations offered by NVWP Teacher Consultants. These sessions are appropriate for teachers of all subjects and all grade levels.

The schedule of presentations, including descriptions, will be posted two weeks before the conference at www.NVWP.org/conferences.
